The new THO gives more space and visibility to editorial and discussions/opinions content
Since we launched the beta version of theheart.org we have been tweaking (and still are) the way different content is presented in the new site. We also have been taking cues from comments received from you through the publisher’s blog and email.
We have already explained how we made heartwire news more visible and more accessible on the site. We also redesigned the home page by removing the unnecessary elements and by focusing on what’s happening inside the site. So, if you scroll down the whole page (which is a third of the length of the old site), you have at a glance the most recent content available in the Editorial series (Thumbs up Thumbs down, Cardiology show, etc), and the latest posts in Discussion and opinions (Topolog, Fellows corner, Forum).
The right column is still dedicated to CME programs, but we changed and improved the way we introduce them. No more banners! We are introducing video previews which will enable you to see a 30 – 40 second clip of the latest CME program.
In regard to advertising and promotion, this content is now reduced to a minimum. We have come down from three to one advertising banner on the new site. Finally, and probably the most discussed issue, Info from Industry. This feature was on the former site, and we have modified its format to comply with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) guidelines to ensure the independence of CME activities.
In other words, we are giving more importance to news, editorial and opinions than ever before, and at the same time we are minimizing advertising in our new site in order to find the right balance. We think it’s a fair deal. And please keep telling us what you think!
