Genomics and Prediction of Cardiovascular Events

An interesting recent paper by Kathiresan and colleagues address the potential of 9 LDL and HDL Cholesterol genes to predict Death, MI and Stroke events. This topic is discussed and your input on this burgeoning field is solicited.

Certainly this research reflects what epidemiology has hinted at,that diseases underwritten  by inflammation "catch fire" more easily depending on the type of brush. By revealing these SNPs,we can alert people to potential "hot spots". If we want to be more effective at preventive cariology,we should be looking more at keeping the forest clear. The inflammatory response that underwrites CVD as well as related diseases is generated by an activated immune system. Normally, this means there is a foreign antigen present.Something about these susceptible genotypes seems to makes them more of a target for these antigens. Certain foods offer protection from these antigens, suggesting that there is some microbe present that is killed by certain plant chemicals.
